LEARN MORE ABOUT US

Lakeway TaeKwonDo is located in a new, modernly equipped, central location.

The school has been designed with safety in mind. All classes are adult supervised and taught. The flooring system is the same as the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA and has “give” to protect children and adults when falling.

The school is dedicated to the instruction of students of all ages (from 4 and up) in all aspects of the TaeKwonDo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
On the physical side, we teach Taekwondo Basic techniques, both World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Poomsae (forms) and International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) Chang Hon Hyung (forms), Olympic-style sparring, a comprehensive self-defense curriculum and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Classes are designed with these specific themes in mind.
We also offer specialized classes and seminars in Women’s Self-Defense.
The mental aspect of the Art is emphasized as well, helping students to learn self-discipline, respect for others and self, and to gain self-confidence and self-esteem.

The Instructors of Lakeway TaeKwonDo

  • Master Chris Abramson

Is Kukkiwon certified WTF 6th Dan, and Head Instructor of Lakeway TaeKwonDo. He was born in New York City in 1970 and earned his BA in Italian from Trinity College in 1992 before returning to NYC for his Master’s in Italian Studies at Columbia University.
It was in 1993 that Chris began his training under Masters Sung Chul and Jun Chul Whang of Westside Taekwondo in New York City. Masters Whang offered him a teaching position in 1996, which he accepted, and continued as a Full Time Instructor until 2002. Chris helped increase the School’s Pee Wee Program (4-5 yr olds) into the largest program of its kind in New York City. At the same time, he instructed all levels of Children’s and Adult’s Classes.
Chris competed throughout New York and New Jersey and was the 1999 USTU National Champion.
He and his wife, Truc Chi (see below) moved to Austin in 2002, with the hopes of creating the premier dojang (school) in Austin.
He would like to thank Masters Sung Chul and Jun Chul Whang for seeing something in him before he did and Master Malick Coulibaly dit Fall of Harlem Taekwondo for having a profound influence on his Taekwondo development.
He is currently a 2 Stripe Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Sean Cooper, a 3rd Degree Black Belt under 5th Degree Black Belt Cleber Luciano.

  • Master Truc Chi Abramson

Is Kukkiwon certified WTF 4th Dan.
She was born in Vietnam and came to the United States in 1981. After graduating from Clark University with a BA in Economics, she moved to New York City for a job as an Equity Trader on Wall Street. In 1998, looking for a way to relieve the stress of her job and after receiving a gift of an introductory membership, she began her Taekwondo training at Westside Taekwondo. She quickly progressed through the ranks and achieved her lifelong dream of attaining a Black Belt in 2002. That same year, she and Chris moved to Austin and opened the premier dojang in the Lake Travis area. Truc Chi continues to train and teach at Lakeway TaeKwonDo while she runs her own staffing company.

  • Master Paul Smith

Is Kukkiwon certified WTF 6th Dan.
He was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1978 and moved to the US in late 2007.
Paul started his Taekwondo journey at 7 years old under the influence of Master Andy Brown who had strong allegiance with Master Sang H. Kim. He achieved his Black Belt certification at 13 and was later privileged to own and run the school where he was once taught. Through this time, Paul learned the skills required to pass on his knowledge of the art to new TKD practitioners.
During his TKD career, he competed at various levels in Scotland and Ireland. He has trained in additional self-defense Korean martial arts, Hapkido and Junsado.
Paul believes he is always learning how to become a stronger instructor and practitioner and thanks Lakeway Taekwondo for welcoming him to their family.

  • Master Nicholas Ash

Is a Kukkiwon certified WTF 4th Dan.
He was born in the Philippines, but raised in Virginia after being adopted along with his twin brother. Nick began his Taekwondo training in 1990, first at a Jhoon Rhee school before moving to the Black Belt Academy of Fairfax, VA. It was here that Nick found his love of demo (trick) kicking and competed throughout VA, MA and DC. In 2005, he and his family moved to Austin where he joined the staff of Lakeway TaeKwonDo and to this day continues to be an integral part of the school.
Nick would like to thank Mr. Nice, Mr. John Chung and Mr. Yahya Yasini for their support in the earlier days of his training and Masters Chris Abramson and Paul Smith for their continued instruction.

  • Mr. Ricardo

Is Kukkiwon certified WTF 1st Dan.
Born and raised in Dripping Springs, Ricardo holds the distinction of being the only student to begin classes as a White Belt teenager and achieve his Black Belt at Lakeway TaeKwonDo. Beginning his training in 2007, Ricardo felt the need for a challenge in his life and found that with his daily Taekwondo study. It was not easy for him, but with the support of his parents and instructors, and his own drive, dedication and commitment, Ricardo achieved his Black Belt in July 2012. Ricardo has been a fulltime instructor at Lakeway TaeKwonDo since 2012 and plays an essential role in the school. He finds it extremely rewarding to pass along his knowledge to the junior students and to see their growth.
